God Wants Your Hands Empty

Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake, I’m your host, Lottie!

In today’s episode we’re going to look at what it means to be “poor in spirit”.

Let’s start by reading the verse for the day which is when Jesus started to preach his famous sermon on the mount.

Matthew 5 verses 1-3,
“Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

A lot of people get confused and don’t understand what Jesus means but to put it simply, Jesus wants us to bring nothing to the table, to be humble and empty so that he can fill us. We need to always have a mindset where we realize that we are nothing apart from God but all too often we are full of ourselves and miss out on what God has to offer us.

He actually wants to bless us and promises the Kingdom of Heaven (or eternal salvation) to those that are spiritually humble. To be poor in spirit is to admit that because of our sin, we are spiritually destitute and need Jesus to save us.

Have you placed your faith in Jesus? How often do you humble yourself when you approach the Lord?

Dear God, please help my listeners to remember that we are absolutely hopeless apart from you and fill our hearts with your presence and peace as we come to you humbly. Help us not to be prideful, especially spiritually. We love you and thank you for sending your son to die for us so we can have eternal life. In Jesus name, amen

This has been another episode of God is Better Than Cake. Thank you for listening!
Until next time, Ciao
