Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake
I’m your host, Lottie!
And today, we’re continuing our series on the beatitudes from the sermon on the Mount.
In Matthew 5:8 it says,
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
ESV
So what does it exactly mean to be pure in heart?
So the word for pure in Matthew 8 in Greek is katheros which means to be blameless, clean or free from guilt. Many times it even means something made pure by fire.
That’s amazing because John the Baptist said that Jesus would come and baptize the people with the Holy Spirit and with Fire.
Now, the word heart from this passage in Greek is kardeeah which can mean our physical heart but also the core or center of a person’s soul.
So was Jesus talking about the Pharisees? Ummm, no… remember he said they were like white washed tombs clean and pure on the outside but like dead man’s bones on the inside. Yikes!
Do you want to see God? I do, but not in this life because that would be terrifying and it’s completely unsurvivable.
God told that to Moses in Exodus 33:20,
“But he said you cannot see my face for man shall not see me and live.”
ESV
So I’m going to take his word for it and trust that when the pure in heart see God it’s when they are in heaven with him.
But that actually means that those that rebel against God will not see his face and will suffer eternally for their unrepentant hearts.
If that’s you, it’s not too late. Jesus can forgive all your sins and make you pure in heart.
Have it given your life to Jesus and surrendered to Him as Lord of your life? If not, I encourage you to do that right away!
If you are a follower of Jesus but have sinned lately and feel impure inside, Jesus is ready, willing and able to forgive you and help you.
Why don’t you all pray this prayer with me from Psalm 51:10,
“Create in me a pure heart, Oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
NKJV
Lord, thank you that you delight to wash away our sin and make us pure. Thank you that you promised the pure in heart that we will see you someday. I can’t wait to be with you forever and feel unending pure joy and love and worship you in awe and majesty. Bless all my listeners today and may they be encouraged.
In Jesus name, Amen!
Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.
Remember to be kind to one another.
Until next time, Ciao
