Your Comfort Is Not The Most Important Thing

Matthew 5:10

Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake

I’m your host, Lottie!

We’re almost done with the beatitudes from the sermon on the Mount and today we’re looking at Matthew 5:10:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”

– Matthew 5:10 ESV

Nobody wants to suffer or be persecuted. It doesn’t take much thought, if you put your hand on a hot stove you’ll pull back as soon as you feel the pain. Likewise if someone is being mean to us it’s easier to flee the situation then sit there and endure it.  But Jesus is saying something pretty radical here. He says that those who are persecuted for His name sake are actually blessed!

I think Christians everywhere need to hear these words and heed them. We live in a time when so many are falling away from Jesus at the slightest discomfort. You may even know some people who have fallen away from God because of persecution or the enticement of the world. It’s truly sad.

Guys, this life is so short. We are like grass, here today and gone tomorrow. Jesus said in Revelation 2:10:

“Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

– Revelation 2:10 ESV

I’m here to encourage you to stay strong, keep pressing on, keep marching on, run the race with endurance and keep your eyes fixed on the prize. No matter what pain or suffering comes.

I’m going to leave you with a verse from Psalm 30:4-5:

“Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,

and give thanks to his holy name.

For his anger is but for a moment,

and his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may tarry for the night,

but joy comes with the morning”

– Psalm 30:4-5 ESV

God loves everybody, God loves you and God loves me.

He sent his Son to die for you and he took our sins when he died and he is worth every hardship and every heartache.

Lord Jesus, please help my listeners to stay strong in you and not forsake you even when life gets hard or many fall away. Please help us to endure through suffering for your sake and help us to stay strong to the end.

In Jesus name, Amen!

Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.

Remember to be kind to one another.

Until next time, Ciao
