That Weight Is Too Heavy For You

Galatians 6:2

Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake, I’m your host, Lottie!

Guess what guys! My dad is joining me today in the studio.

Hey! And thank you, Lottie.

Of course!

I like it when he does recordings with me.

Let me ask you something…

Do you prefer it when I do recordings by myself or when I have a guest with me?

Let me know in the comments on YouTube or on the Q&A on Spotify because I actually want to know if I should record more with guests or keep it the same!

Your feedback is very helpful, you know!

So how are you doing today, Lottie?

I’m doing really good, thank you!

Awesome, me too!

I want to read a verse and talk about it with you, sound good?

Oh yeah, totally!

Galatians 6:2 says,

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

– Galatians 6:2 ESV

Paul wrote this to the believers in Galatia toward the end of his letter to them as an encouragement for them to follow the two greatest commandments that Jesus gave us in Matthew 22:37-38 when he said to one of the Pharisees,

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

– Matthew 22:37-38 ESV

Wait so bearing someone else’s burden is one practical way to fulfill the great commandments?

Yes!

And you came up with that all by yourself?

No dad! You wrote this, remember?

Oh haha, yeah.

[both laugh]

So let’s break down this verse… What do you think Jesus meant by “bear one another’s burdens”?

Well, life is hard and we often have mental, emotional and spiritual weights that burden our hearts and our minds.

They can be so intense that it makes us doubt God’s love and sometimes causes us to get very depressed and lose all hope.

Yeah, that is unfortunately very true. It affects everyone at some point in their lives.

Yes, it does, but often times we bear those burdens alone and we were never meant to.

God wants us to help bear each other’s burdens as an act of love toward our neighbor.

It’s amazing how much grace he pours out on both as we obey this commandment.

Have you ever had a time in your life when you were so burdened but someone came along and listened to you,

prayed with you and pointed you to Jesus?

Oh yes, just today actually. I was worrying and stressing over work and feeling the weight of it but your mom came to me and talked with me and prayed with me. It really helped my heart to let go of things I can’t control and trust Jesus for answers.

Your mom really is the best!

Oh, I know!

Well, I’m sure our listeners also struggle with this so how should we encourage them today?

Ok guys, so if you take one thing from this lesson today, the next time you are carrying a burden that you think no one will understand or be able to help.

Step out in obedience to Jesus and ask someone to listen,

pray and bear that burden with you.

And if you see a brother or sister in the Lord struggling,

ask them how you can help by listening and praying out loud with them.

It’ll change your life.

Heavenly Father, thank you for these gold nuggets of truth that you gave to us in your word.

Help us to love you and one another by bearing each other’s burdens.

Thank you that you gave us your spirit to dwell with us and remind us each day to love one another.

I love you Lord, bless all my listeners today in Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake. Remember to be kind to one another.

Until next time, Ciao
