Psalm 103:1-8
Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake, I’m your host, Lottie!
Today I’m going to read a few verses from Psalm 103
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
- Psalm 103:1-8, 10-22 ESV
Do you talk to yourself sometimes?
What kinda of things do you say?
My dad is so funny…when he’s working and really focused, he talks to himself.
It’s interesting because in this Psalm David is talking to himself and telling himself to bless the Lord.
He’s not talking to someone else and not directly to God because he says, “O MY soul”
It’s really important to lead our hearts, remember from our third episode that our hearts are deceitful and desperately sick? Well, this is one way that we can lead our hearts away from the sinful desires we have and into the dwelling place of our Lord and Savior, our God and our King.
Let’s look at some of the other things he’s saying about what God has done for his children, his bride.
- Forget not all his benefits – in other words, remember what God has done for you!
- He has forgiven ALL your iniquity, past, present and future.
- He heals all your diseases
- He redeems your life from the pit
- He crowns you with steadfast love and mercy
- He satisfies your heart with GOOD so that you have renewed strength
He is always working righteousness and justice for the oppressed. (He sees the little things guys). And He made himself known to all of God’s people.
Guys, I don’t know about you but I get the feeling that God loves us. We need to tell ourselves these things, remind our hearts that God is good. If you hear a voice in your head saying things like, “ugh, you’re such a failure” or “you are not good enough”, or “nobody loves you”.
Don’t listen to that! That’s the devil talking to you.
Let’s remind each other to talk to your heart and tell it to bless the Lord and to remember all his benefits.
Lord God, thank you for each and every one of my listeners. Please help them all today to not listen to the lies of the enemy, but to speak truth to their hearts.
If they do not know you, please help them to see how much you love them, convict them of their sins today and rescue them from your wrath.
If they do believe, please remind them of all the good things that you have done and what an amazing God you are who loves us and died on the cross for our sins, rescuing us from your wrath. We love you, we worship you and we are so grateful for YOU!
In Jesus name, amen
Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake. Remember to be kind to one another.
Until next time, Ciao
