God Is Not Mad at You

Psalm 104:9-14

Hi, how are you doing today?

My name is Lottie and I’m your host for God is Better Than Cake,

a childlike faith podcast for everyone!

Also, I think I might make my dad a permanent guest on this show…what’s that called, dad?

Oh huh, oh that’s called a co-host.

Yeah, a co-host. Guys, should my dad be a co-host?

Do you want to be, dad?

Well, I would be honored, yes, of course! Thank you!

You’re welcome!

Awesome!

Hey Lottie, before we get started I was thinking I could let everyone know that in episode 31, called “Why I started this podcast” you explain the heart behind why we’re doing this podcast and then today we could talk about who it’s for, sound good?

Um ok, but you just did.

Oh yeah, that’s true.

Yeah guys go listen to the episode from a couple days ago if you haven’t.

Perfect! Now who is this podcast for? Is it just for kids?

Uh, no, dad.

Guys, it doesn’t matter if you’re 5 years old like me or 105 years old like the world record track runner, Julia Hawkins, I started this podcast for you.

You see guys, we ALL need daily reminders of God’s love and mercy because we are so forgetful and lots of times in today’s world we are very very busy and tell ourselves “I’ll read the Bible tomorrow” but that is a recipe for disaster soup for your soul because you need Jesus ALL the time, not just when it’s convenient.

You’re absolutely right, Lottie. We need reminders so often and I sincerely hope that everyone who listens will be stirred in their hearts to seek Jesus every day. But I think sometimes people feel bad because of their sin and feeling far from God makes them go farther away.

Well, yes, that’s true but then they should listen to today’s verses from Psalm 103 verses 9 to 14.

He will not always chide,

nor will he keep his anger forever.

He does not deal with us according to our sins,

nor repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

    so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;

as far as the east is from the west,

so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

As a father shows compassion to his children,

so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

For he knows our frame;

he remembers that we are dust.

– Psalm 103:9-14 ESV

Bro, those verses bring tears to my eyes. He remembers that we are dust? He shows compassion on those who fear him? And He forgives our sins and doesn’t count them against us? Those are like nuggets of gold.

Well, I like to think of them more like warm cozy hugs.

Haha, yeah that’s a better analogy. So what can we learn from this passage today?

God is sooo gracious, loving and kind to us, even though we don’t deserve it.

Like you said, people often think that they can’t come to God because they feel shame for their sins but God is NOT waiting there with punishments as soon as we approach him, his arms are stretched out, he’s waiting with tears streaming down his face to hug our hearts and soothe our souls, to forgive our sins and pour out his mercy on us because he loves us so so deeply.

Exactly! He can do this because Jesus paid the penalty for those sins and if we are his sons and daughters, we don’t need to be afraid to approach him.

Dad?

Yeah, sweetheart?

Thank you so much for teaching me about the Bible and about God and Jesus.

You’re welcome, I really hope and pray that it takes root in your heart like God has done for me and your mom and that you get to know Jesus more and more. He really is such a sweet friend.

Ok guys, Remember, love your Mom and Daddy

Yes, love the Lord, love your mom and dad and brothers and sisters and show God’s love to everyone!

I think I want to pray now.

Let’s do it!

Dear Lord, thank you that you do not always chide or be angry with us, or hold our sins against us but that you freely forgive and redeem and restore. Today if there are any of my listeners who feel far from you or that they can’t approach you. Please remind them that it’s your kindness that leads us to repentance. You are waiting with open arms like you did for the prodigal son with compassion, knowing that we are fragile, that we are dust. Thank you for caring so much for us and being so faithful. In Jesus name, amen!

Yes, Lord and I also ask that you would draw anyone to you that does not know you who might be listening, whose hearts are yearning for you but don’t even realize it. Lord, I ask and pray that you would open their eyes to see your goodness and the depravity of their hearts and turn to you for the ache their souls are longing for. Satisfy them with your love, forgive their sins, make them a child of God today. In Jesus name, amen

Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.

Remember to be kind to one another.

Until next time, Ciao
