Who Cares if the Grass Is Greener?

Psalm 103:15-22

Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake, I’m your host, Lottie!

In today’s episode, we’re going to finish looking at Psalm 103. Dad, could we take turns reading?

Sure, I’ll start, let’s each read one verse

Okay!

‭Psalm 103:15-22

As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field;

For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.

But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children,

To those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.

Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word!

Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will!

Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!”

– ‭Psalm 103:15-22 ESV

Lottie, what do you think about these verses?

I think this is a perspective that we all need but often forget.

We get so short-sighted and forget about the big picture.

What do you mean?

Well, he says that man is like grass.

It’s true that the grass and flowers grow tall and strong and beautiful but that’s what most of us tend to focus on.

We look at each other and others and compare if we are greener or more beautiful than the person next to us but we forget that every single one of us will eventually be gone from this earth. Either to be with the Lord or enter his wrath.

You’re so right, it’s very difficult for us to dwell on eternal things when we can’t even see them with our eyes.

Yeah…that’s why it’s so important for us to have faith and trust in God because he made us and loves us. And… David’s very next words say that same thing that God’s steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him.

So if God is God and I am man, and I rebelled against him but he loved me enough to take the punishment I deserve, what should I do?

Trust in him and bless his name!

Amen! Let’s say those last few verses again together:

“Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word!

Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will!

Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!”

– Psalm 130:20-22 ESV

So I have an idea, Lottie! How about throughout the day, we remind each other to Bless the Lord!

Oh that’s a great idea! Hey dad?

Yes?

Remember to Bless the Lord!

Haha, nicely done! Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Heavenly Father, thank you for pouring out your wisdom and favor through men like David in the Bible who were sinners just like we are. Thank you for giving us the big picture so we can put aside our meaningless aims in life and remember to focus on what matters. Help my listeners to see just how loving and kind you really are and to respond like David and Bless your name! Bless the Lord, O my soul! In Jesus name, amen

Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake. Remember to be kind to one another.

Until next time, Ciao
