Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake, I’m your host, Lottie!
Today I have a guest in the studio with me. Can you guess who? Yep, it’s my dad!
Welcome dad!
Hi, thanks for having me on the show. What are we gonna talk about today?
I want to talk about the ocean! Do you love to go to the ocean?
Oh, yes the ocean is a beautiful place to visit. Do you like going there?
Ummm, I LOVE IT! It’s so majestic and powerful!
More powerful than God?
No, silly! God is more powerful than anything, you know that.
Haha, yes that was a test
Listen to these verses.
Jeremiah 31:35 says,
“This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day,
who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar–
“the LORD Almighty is his name.”the LORD Almighty is his name.
And also Psalm 89:9:
“You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.”
Wait, so he makes the sea roar at times and then calms it at other times?
Yes, God is like a lion and a lamb, he is powerful but also gentle. When you look around at the world around you, you can see evidence of God’s attributes. Like men and women for example… Men are strong and brave and courageous and women are gentle, tender and nurturing.
That’s a really good observation and it’s also really comforting.
Yeah, almost like God made it that way on purpose.
Man, All this talk about the ocean makes me want to go there!
Oh yeah, me too!
So guys, next time you’re at the ocean and you hear the seagulls in the distance and see kids building sand castles and surfers riding the waves, take a good look around you and remember that God made the ocean for you to enjoy and remind you of His goodness and character. He is powerful and he is good.
What a good reminder. Shall we pray?
Yes!
Dear God,
Thank you for the ocean, thank you for the reminder that it is to us of how good and powerful you are. Thank you that we can enjoy the beach and all the other gifts you give in life. You are a good and kind and loving God. We worship you and bless your name. Thank you for all my listeners. Help them to remember to look for evidence of you in the world around them and be encouraged today. In Jesus name, amen
Ok, my dad and I are going to read one more verse to wrap things up.
Jeremiah 5:22
“Do you not fear me? Declares the LORD.
Do you not tremble before me?
I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass;
though the waves toss, they cannot prevail;
though they roar, they cannot pass over it.”
Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.
Remember to be kind to one another.
Until next time, Ciao
