Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake
I’m your host, Lottie!
And today, we’re continuing our series on the beatitudes from the sermon on the Mount.
In Matthew 5:6 it says,
“Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.”
ESV
Would you say that you’re a merciful person?
Being inherently selfish, we often hurt others even when we don’t mean to and it’s easier to show mercy and forgiveness to someone that didn’t mean to hurt us
But what if their actions were intentional?
Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s much harder to overlook an offense from someone that meant to hurt us on purpose.
In those kinds of situations all we tend to think about is justice.
But guess what?
God already took the punishment for all our sins and the sins of the world on himself and offers eternal life to all who would receive it.
That’s true mercy.
Romans 5:8 says,
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners,
ESV
Christ died for us.
Can you think about someone that has wronged you intentionally and ask God to give you a heart of mercy, forgiveness and compassion for them?
God wants to bestow even more mercy on your life and he promises an amazing blessing that those who are merciful will also receive mercy.
Let’s pray for our hearts right now. Lord Jesus, help us all to be merciful.
Not just for the blessing you promise but to glorify your name.
And please help all of us to overlook offenses and forgive.
Be merciful to us, we are like sheep that have gone astray and need your gentle care.
In Jesus name, Amen!
Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.
Remember to be kind to one another.
Until next time, Ciao
