Matthew 5:11
Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake
I’m your host, Lottie!
Today’s verse is very similar to the previous one in Matthew 5:11 where it says,
“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account”
– Matthew 5:11 ESV
Wow, this is kind of shocking if I’m being honest. How are we to consider ourselves blessed when we are being hated and mocked and even killed because we love Jesus? How can we “rejoice and be glad” in the midst of such pain and sorrow?
I’ll tell you how and why we should. Jesus can tell us this because he knows that the glory to be revealed to us when we enter into his presence will far surpass any pain on earth.
In fact the Bible says it is “slight, momentary” affliction.
This is all about perspective, and understanding the deep spiritual truths here. I know, it’s hard to see when the pain is so real but God knows all things and we can trust Him.
We can rejoice in our sufferings when we think about the place God is preparing for us to dwell eternally with him.
We can stay strong in our suffering when we remember that this
“slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, because we look not to things that are seen but things that are unseen.”
– 2 Corinthians 4:17 ESV
The key here is to grow in our faith and in our walk with God. To focus on the eternal, not the temporal. We can do that by reading God’s word and spending time with him in prayer and surrounding ourselves with believers that are doing the same.
Lord, help us to have eyes fixed on you and on the glory of our salvation that will be revealed when you return.
Help us to remember that life here on earth is short and temporary. Help us not to be blinded by the lies of the enemy or the world but to grow each day in you.
Thank you for your unending love for us even in our darkest, broken, most painful days. We love you, in Jesus name, amen!
Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.
Remember to be kind to one another.
Until next time, Ciao
