Hi guys! Today I’m gonna say one of my new memory verses that I think everyone should know. Not only is it wise, it’s God’s word to us and an important instruction on how we should live.

James 1:19

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to  become angry.” 

– James 1:19 ESV

It’s really hard to become quick to listen. After all it’s our nature to want to be heard and have our own ideas and feelings come across to those around us. We want to put the best part of us forward because deep down we all want to be loved and accepted.

But what if God, in his infinite wisdom, knows what’s best for us and by listening we can actually be more wise, thoughtful and caring towards other people. By being slow to speak and slow to become angry, we walk closer with God and in fellowship with others. 

It’s hard to do, take it from me! But it’s an important thing for us to do. I find it helpful to memorize and meditate on verses like this. 

Have you been angry lately? In that conversation, were you quick to listen? Or quick to speak?

Lord, help us by your spirit to be humble and listen when others are speaking so we can know and understand them better. Help us to be slow to speak and slow to become angry. To not sin in our anger but have righteous indignation instead 

We love you and thank you for giving us your word so that we may become more like you and love those around us.
