Is Obedience Actually Important?

1 John 5:2-3

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to another episode of God is Better Than Cake

I’m your host, Lottie!

Have you ever wondered why God wants us to obey Him? Could it be that God actually knows what’s best for us?

Yes! You see we think we know what we want or what is best for us but our hearts are clouded and our eyes are dimmed by sin. There is a desire in all of us to rebel against God and do what we want. Sometimes we think that that will make us free but it is a lie from the enemy.

By obeying the Lord in faith, we are trusting that He knows what is best for us because He made us and loves us. We are showing Him that we are grateful for all He’s done for us.

It’s not always an easy thing to do but when we do obey Him, we actually have more freedom. It’s very important that we take time every day to remind ourselves of this truth and read God’s word which is able to help us see through our blindness.

So if God loves us so much, how can we show Him that we love Him too? What is a practical way for us to know that we are loving God and loving others?

Let’s listen to this verse from 1st John 5:2-3:

“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”

– 1 John 5:2-3 ESV

I want to obey God every day but as you know some days are harder than others. I sometimes obey God and I need you to obey God too.

Dear Lord,

Help us all to obey you. Help our response to be loving you back and loving your people and help us to walk in obedience even when our selfish hearts want to rule instead. We love you, we need you and we pray that you will come quickly.

In Jesus name, amen!

Thank you for listening to another episode of God is Better Than Cake.

Remember to be kind to one another.

Until next time, Ciao
